Sensō-ji Temple

The Sensō-ji is an ancient Buddhist Temple located in Asakusa, Tokyo, Japan and is Tokyo’s oldest temple as well as one of the most important. It was built in 645 AD and has been affiliated with several different factions and groups throughout Japan’s deep history. It was associated with the Tendai sect of Buddhism up until World War II. After which, it became independent. The large pagoda adjacent to the temple is the Asakusa Shinto Shrine. This temple is dedicated to Kannon Bosatsu, the Bodhisattva of compassion, which is an important deity in Buddhism. It is one of the most popular religious sites in the world with an estimated 30 million visitors per year.
